With three bands catering for all ages and stages of brass playing, the Devon County Youth Brass Bands provide exciting musical opportunities for young musicians from across Devon and beyond.

Our three ensembles are:

​

• Children’s Band – for beginner and younger players

• Junior Band – for developing intermediate musicians

• Youth Band – for advanced young brass and percussion players

 

Directed by local brass band musicians Chris Spreadbury and Matt Hawkins, alongside a team of experienced tutors from across the South West, the organisation meets on selected Sundays each academic year in Exeter.

With over 90 members across the three ensembles, the bands provide a clear musical pathway from a student's very first experience of ensemble playing, through to advanced level performance.

Children's Brass Band: gives younger and beginner musicians their first opportunity to experience playing in a brass band. DCCBB welcomes students in Years 3–5 of any ability level. Rehearsals take place from 10:00am–12:30pm.

Junior Brass Band: our intermediate ensemble, bridging the gap between the Children’s Band and the more advanced Youth Band. DCJBB is suitable for students in Years 6–8 who are approximately Grade 1–3 standard. Rehearsals take place from 10:00am–12:30pm.

Youth Brass Band: our senior ensemble, aimed at advanced young brass and percussion players of approximately Grade 4 standard and above. DCYBB rehearses from 10:00am–4:00pm on gathering days.
