Devon County Youth Brass Band

On Saturday January 16th the Devon County Youth Brass Band held a free composing workshop for 11-24yr old brass players at the Tavistock Methodist Church. South West accomplished young composer (and ex assistant conductor for DCYBB) Mr Simon Dobson ran the day for the youngsters. The day consisted of a tutorial, then the young people went into small groups and composed a component for a full band piece about a “a bike race”, they then practised individually, and performed it as a band to the parents at the end of the day. Peter Jones MD for DCYBB said “the young people found the day useful and enjoyable. We are very grateful to Simon for agreeing to come along and to the Jack Riley Trust, the Elmgrant Trust , the friends of DCYBB and Babcock LDP for their funding to make the day possible. We are also very grateful to the local businesses, the Original Pasty House, Tesco’s, Morrisons, Ford Street One Stop/Spar, Brook Street Co-operative store, Payless and Trago Mills, for stationery and food and snacks for the band. Without this kind of support and generosity the band could not function and young people would not have these opportunities.”

The band is looking for sponsorship, so if any business or individual would like to sponsor the band they can be contacted through their website www.dcybb.org
